Puppies NOTE: I am taking a (probably) 'forever' break as I have definitely done my job in establishing the breed. I believe the breed desperately needs a break after the impact of the pandemic has disrupted its progress and development worldwide. Please be careful with searching for a Kromi. Heartbreak is not a good price to pay for what you think is your heart's desire.
Many moons ago, trainers like me on the early internet (1990-2004) were developing fun, new ways to raise 'puppy geniuses' and we all had our cute names for our own methodology, typically part based on science-y studies, part based on personal observation. Some of us turned these methods into a for-sale product, others (like me) were happy to be paid to raise other breeder's puppies. My methods have always been breed-specific and are these days geared toward Kromfohrlanders, who enjoy a natural, instinctive environment based primarily around what the owner does all day. The song, "Me and my shadow..." Yeah, that is the Kromfohrlander!
My "way" results in confident, happy puppies at 8.5 weeks old when they go to their new homes. The owner must continue to socialize their puppy as much as possible- take them with you everywhere. Show them the world they will need to live in and be part of. When they grow up, keep on doing it. Gentle manners learning and never anger. A Kromfohrlander success story is dependent on its owner's participation.
Our puppies also come with first shots, are wormed and microchipped and are tested for the Kromfohrlander-specific disorders hyperkeratosis and von Willebrand's I Disease. They are also AKC's Foundation Stock recorded ('registration') and have as much real world experience we can give them in the time we have them. I introduce the clicker for training around the 5th week. We let them have positive, organic experiences outside every day, weather permitting. They aren't just penned up or banished to a kennel. They sleep in the kitchen at night, have tons of different toys, learn how to eat fruits and vegetables, meat and normal puppy food. They are exposed to loud noises, music, voices, people, machines, stores, car rides, etc. to build their resumé of familiar things. In the horse world, we called it 'sacked out.'
You will not be able to choose your puppy. I need to make sure your puppy fits YOU.
Kromfohrlanders as a whole, have similar traits but each is a lovely snowflake, as wonderfully individual as they can be. We hope to have one that suits you and your preferences but chances are you may have to wait until the next litter.
We invite potential Kromfohrlander owners to visit us here on almost 3 acres, surrounded by an ancient, 500 acre salt flat forest preserve, once ruled by Michigan mastodons...just outside of the best town in America, Ann Arbor.
